4 Star Gym, located at 436 Main St, El Segundo, CA, is a neighborhood/community gym that is barbell focused, catering to all sorts of people that want to gain strength and be fit. Our members range from people who never lifted weights before to elite level athletes. We also have a Jiu Jitsu/MMA/Grappling room whose target clientele are people looking for a place to roll with their friends for the price of a gym membership. 4 Star offers each member the opportunity to get their own key (for $20), giving them 24 hour access, 365 days a year, providing exceptional flexibility as to when our clients can get their training in.
The gym has an old school feel, with many of its members training for strength focused sports such as powerlifting, olympic lifting, crossfit, etc. The training environment includes (see full list of equipment) six full power racks in the main gym, tons of plates (lbs, kgs and bumper plates), kettle bells, dumbbells up to 150 lbs, TRX, gymnastic rings. In the space next door we have a cable machine, smith machine and the MMA/Jiu Jitsu room and 150 lb heavy (Muay Thai) bag. There is also an overflow room with two more power racks to handle the after work rush.
Currently, we have four trainers Jason Kelske (owner of Game Time Strength), Sean Crenshaw (specializing in boxing, kick boxing and functional training), Jason Kahn (specializing in strength training, body composition, flexibility/mobility, powerlifting, sports specific training, and physique aesthetics) and Eric Gable (specializing in MMA and Jiu Jitsu).
4 Star Gym is home to Game Time Strength (GTS) and Conditioning. Game Time Strength is a multi-coach, team based training system for those looking to improve their movement patterns, operate under a goal based nutrition system and master strength in the big lifts like squat, bench, deadlift, and overhead press. Established in 1969
4 Star Gym has been in business since 1969, originally opened by Jim Fox, one of the original Venice Beach Body Builders. Seven years later, he sold the gym to Horace McKenna (Big Mac), who ran the gym until 1989. The next owner was Steve Sirridge (Bear), who ran the gym until 1995, then Dorian Bell took over for another seven years, passing the gym onto Bob Mackay, the property owner. Bob ran the gym until August 2008, but then decided to close it. Current owner Michael Goff had been working out at 4 Star Gym since 1982, and did not want to see the gym close. So Mary and Mike bought the gym from Bob. We made significant renovations to the space, with a lot of help from our members. We are proud of the strong sense of community that makes 4 Star Gym unique, and look forward to you training at 4 Star!
